Hans Koning

PhD candidate at VU Amsterdam

Brief info

Hans Koning is a Ph.D. candidate at VU Amsterdam and researches governance in the public blockchain. His main focus lies on how decentralized and permissionless technology can (or should) be organized and structured. Additionally, the study will look at how public blockchain governance is compared to governance as it is commonly understood in society, for instance, the UNDP governance principles. His interest is nascent technology from a non-tech point of view, and specifically the role it plays in society in an economic, social, political, and philosophical way. He has been involved in the blockchain ecosystem for many years, co-founded the DigiByte Foundation, and helped many projects break ground. He sees himself as an advocate for decentralization. Principle driver is to democratize technology: for the people, by the people.
