Summer Party, Summer List

Yesterday the Amsterdam Law & Technology Institute closed the year the right way, with a summer party (photos below).

This was a year of new grants and new publications, of conferences and of teaching, and through all of it the team spirit held strong, as strong as it has ever been. Our lunch culture and our seminar culture keep this group close. The seminars alone took us a long way this year, from who governs information to who controls the digital economy, with stops at the AI Act, a post-human future, big data, weapons and biotech, and even a workshop on building your own digital brain for research. A recurring habit, we noticed, is starting our titles with the word “who.” We are lawyers. We like to know who is responsible.

We played petanque, which quickly revealed who among us reads the rules and who prefers to argue about them. We also swam. No grants were awarded for either, though a few were requested. It was a good way to close the year together.

So before everyone scatters for the break, we wanted to leave you with something. We asked each researcher for one recommendation, ie, one album or one movie that has stayed with them this year. Consider it peer-reviewed. What follows is that collection, a small window into the people behind the work and the things they love when they close their laptops. We hope it carries you through the summer.
