Stef van Gompel is Full Professor of Intellectual Property at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, specialising in national and international copyright law. He received his doctorate from the University of Amsterdam in 2011 for a thesis on formalities in copyright law, and previously served as associate professor at the Institute for Information Law. Alongside his academic position he sits on the Executive Board of the Dutch Copyright Supervisory Authority, is a member of the Dutch Copyright Committee advising the Ministry of Justice and Security, and is editor-in-chief of the Dutch copyright journal Auteursrecht. He is a former president of the Dutch national group of AIPPI.
