Multidisciplinary workshop on persuasive design and manipulation via digital products

November 19, 2021 10:00 - 17:30 UTC+1

Free
ALTI, in collaboration with the NNHRR – Netherlands Network for Human Rights Research, is happy to present the interactive workshop on the legal implications of manipulative and persuasive digital products!
Dark patterns for cookie consent, in-game purchases, the voice of virtual assistants, prompts from fitness apps: these are only some examples of user interfaces and products designed to be persuasive, to steer the behaviours of users.
The possible effects of persuasive design on users are now catching the attention of the EU Commission and of the Council of Europe, but the exact features of the phenomenon are not clear yet, especially from the legal perspective.
This workshop explores the implications of persuasive design with a multidisciplinary approach, putting together in one room lawyers, designers, social scientists, computer scientists, and ethicists.
On November 19, the works will be opened with a keynote by a special guest: Mr. Jan Kleijssen, Director of Information Society – Action against Crime, Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe.
The keynote will be followed by two panels, with a spectacular line-up of speakers from several disciplines, and plenty of time for inclusive and lively discussions involving all participants!
The workshop is interactive and multidisciplinary, and welcomes participants from law, but also other relevant academic domain.
Participation is free. Registration (mandatory) here .
