Antitrust Under The Palms

February 7, 2023 - February 8, 2023

What: Antitrust Under the Palms: A Competition Policy Event

Where: Miami, Florida – venue TBD

When: February 7 -8, 2023

Why: The need for collaboration is great since it is impossible to overstate the sea change that has occurred in antitrust enforcement over the past year. Policymakers and regulators on both sides of the Atlantic have embarked upon countless initiatives to preemptively regulate and/or sanction large swaths of the economy in the name of competition.

Unfortunately, these initiatives appear to be united by a paucity of theoretical underpinnings and several misapprehensions about business, big or otherwise. To put it mildly, there is a strong sense that the error-cost framework has, at least in part, given way to expediency and politically-motivated intervention. The goal of this event is to discuss more broadly what it means to be a classical competition scholar in this rapidly deteriorating policy environment, and, where possible, to identify points of convergence we can develop together.
